IN SOUTHERN AFRICA

BOTSWANA

Botswana is renowned for offering some of the finest and most diverse safari experiences in Africa. The Okavango Delta is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with unparalleled wildlife viewing on land (bush walks and game drives) and on water (mokoro safaris and boat excursions). Adjoining it to the north is the largely unknown but no less wildlife-filled Linyanti Wetlands and Savute Marsh, and further north is the most accessible of the country’s wilderness areas, Chobe National Park. Combine this area with the contrasting environments of the Kalahari Desert to the south and the expansive Makgadikgadi and Nxai salt pans to the east, and you have one of the world’s last true wildernesses – unfenced and with wildlife migrating freely as nature intended.

NAMIBIA

Exposed to the mercy of Mother Nature, Namibia’s landscapes are often not what you expect to find in this part of Africa: sandy deserts, tortured rock, vast plains and a desolate coastline that for much of the year is bathed in thick fog. With a population density that ranks among the lowest in the world, the country is dominated by great expanses of silent unspoilt wilderness. However these harsh environments are home to a wealth of wildlife – Namibia is the last place on earth where sizable populations of black rhino roam free, it’s the only home of the famed desert-dwelling elephant, and a quarter of the world’s cheetah stalk its arid plains. You are accompanied throughout Namibia by one of our local guides – Elvis, Leevi or Berron – and travel in a comfortable 4×4 SUV vehicle. Namibia is a vast country and a reasonable amount of territory is covered during each journey, yet even those days dedicated to reaching a particular destination includes some sightseeing or activity while also allowing for regular refreshment stops along the way.

SOUTH AFRICA

Travel through South Africa and you will encounter almost every landscape imaginable from rolling, fertile plains and wildlife-filled bush to sweeping coastlines, scorching desert sands and towering mountain peaks. Boasting one of the world’s most renowned wildlife reserves – the Greater Kruger National Park – the country also claims a wealth of top-rated accommodation as well as a vast selection of world-class dining plus bountiful farmlands and vineyards and pristine beaches stretching from the Atlantic Ocean in the west to the Indian Ocean in the east. Often called the “rainbow nation” to describe its multicultural diversity, South Africa also offers meaningful cultural encounters – especially in the vibrant urban centres of Cape Town, Johannesburg and Soweto – and when combined with its excellent road and air systems, here is truly “a world in one country” that is also notably affordable.

ZAMBIA

Zambia showcases some of the continent’s best wildlife viewing as well as the spectacular Victoria Falls. And yet, despite its impressive safari industry and a wide array of experiences with some of the best guides you’ll find, Zambia remains ‘under the radar’ among Africa’s safari destinations and offers an authentic, unspoiled taste of wild Africa. This includes the compact Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park bordering the Zambezi River and just upstream from the Victoria Falls, where we offer a memorable morning combination of a rhino walking safari and “lunch with the elephants”. Just a short flight away is South Luangwa National Park, renowned for its walking safaris, which combines well with the game drives and water-based wildlife viewing offered in the Lower Zambezi Valley. Add to this the warm-hearted people of Zambia who are renowned for their friendliness, and you have the makings of an enjoyable and unforgettable experience, often without the crowds encountered in the more popular safari regions.

ZIMBABWE

Zimbabwe, a country of rich heritage and abundant natural wonders, offers a journey through the wild heart of Southern Africa. The country’s diverse landscapes, from rolling highlands and wide plains to riverine valleys and snaking rivers, set the scene for a truly authentic African adventure. Marvel at the Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, and explore the vast landscapes of Hwange National Park, known for its abundance of the Big Five that can be seen on foot and on game drives.  Bordered by the Zambezi River to the north and Limpopo River to the south, and with one of the regions largest lakes, there’s also unique experiences like game  viewing from a canoe in Mana Pools National Park and multi-day safaris by house boat on Lake kariba. And despite the country’s past political and economic troubles, there’s also the warmth and friendliness of the local people, who add a special charm to your travels.

EAST AFRICA

KENYA

Kenya is the quintessential African safari destination, with sweeping savannahs, dramatic mountains, lush forests, and palm-fringed beaches. Home to the Big Five and the annual Great Migration in the Masai Mara, it’s ideal for both first-time visitors and seasoned safari-goers. Its landscapes are as diverse as its wildlife: elephants beneath Kilimanjaro in Amboseli, flamingo-filled Rift Valley lakes, desert-adapted species in Samburu, and the Laikipia Plateau, where conservancies offer walking/riding/biking safaris in addition to traditional game drives. Immortalised by Ernest Hemingway and Out of Africa’s Karen Blixen, Kenya’s safari tradition remains timeless. While some popular parks can feel busy at times, travelling in a different season or visiting smaller reserves and private conservancies offer more intimate adventures—before ending with white sands and turquoise waters along Kenya’s Indian Ocean coast.

TANZANIA

Over one-third of Tanzania is dedicated to safeguarding its diverse array of wildlife and a journey through this ancient land takes the traveller through an array of unique landscapes – from sweeping grasslands and dense tropical forests to simmering volcanoes, vibrant coral reefs and a snow-topped mountain. Within these landscapes are some of Africa’s greatest geological splendours, such as the ‘perfectly-shaped’ Ngorongoro Crater and iconic Serengeti plains, as well as Mount Kilimanjaro and the Great Rift Valley – all of which play a critical role in shaping and preserving Tanzania’s diverse ecosystems. Then there’s Tanzania’s tropical coast, with white sandy beaches and a scattering of islands that offer the quintessental ‘beach break’ along with a fascinating history steeped in early spice-trade routes and colonial exploration intertwined with the local Swahili culture.

UGANDA

Uganda, celebrated as the “Pearl of Africa,” offers some of East Africa’s most captivating landscapes and distinctive wildlife encounters. From the lush Kibale Forest, where wild chimpanzees thrive, to the ancient Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to over half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas, Uganda’s protected areas are havens of biodiversity and conservation. Queen Elizabeth National Park, renowned for its tree-climbing lions and abundant wildlife along the Kazinga Channel, adds to the diversity of safari experiences, while the Nile River, flowing northwards from Uganda’s Lake Victoria, brings a deep sense of history and natural wonder.
