Nairobi

You arrive at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and are met by our local guide, Nicholas who welcomes you to East Africa with a friendly Jambo! and transfers you to your boutique hotel in the leafy upmarket suburb of Karen. Depending on your arrival time, Nicholas can provide an afternoon’s exploration of Nairobi, should you wish.  Suggested sights and experiences include visits to the renowned Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage as well as the Giraffe Centre, along with Karen Blixen Museum and a number of interesting crafts shops and workshops.

Masai Mara

Nicholas transfers you to Nairobi’s Wilson Airport for your short flight to Kenya’s premier wildlife destination, the Masai Mara. The flight travels over the tribal homelands of the Masai before arriving at an airstrip on the fringe of the reserve, where you meet your camp guide and enjoy a game drive transfer to the camp. You stay here for three nights and your safari experiences include walking safaris and day and evening game drives – on one of your days you may wish to embark on a full day’s drive with a picnic lunch provided. Cultural visits to the nearby Masai village can also be arranged, as can a sunrise balloon safari (both at additional cost).

The Masai Mara is Kenya’s most famous wildlife area, part of the Greater Serengeti ecosystem and home to the Great Migration of wildebeest. From predators like lion and cheetah to abundant grazers and dramatic river crossings, the Mara offers excellent year-round wildlife viewing.

Tanzania - Day 5-7

Serengeti National Park

Your camp guide returns you to the airstrip for your journey to Serengeti National Park. The flight includes a stop at Migori airstrip (Kenya), from where passengers are transferred in an air-conditioned bus to Tarime airstrip (Tanzania) via Isebenia-Sirari border post for departure (Kenya) and arrival (Tanzania) procedures. From Tarime you recommence your flight journey into Serengeti National Park. You are met at the airstrip by your camp guide who provides a game drive transfer to the camp. Your stay here is totally flexible and your guide will discuss your preferred game driving schedule, which can include short game drives returning to camp after 2-3 hours and/or full day game drives with a packed lunch on-board.

The vast and beautiful Serengeti is one of Africa’s most awe-inspiring wildernesses and its endless, open plains are home to a sheer density of animals that makes for incredible wildlife viewing throughout the year.

Tanzania - Day 8-9

Ngorongoro Crater

Your camp guide game drives you south to Ngorongoro Crater, with plenty of wildlife viewing (and a picnic lunch) to be enjoyed along the way. Upon your arrival at your lodge, you can embark on a guided walk to the crater rim or a nearby Masai village…or you can relax and simply enjoy the view from your cottage. The following day offers a half-day private game drive on the crater floor, which can be followed by another of the walks or other activities/experiences offered from the lodge.

A visit to the Ngorongoro Crater is an experience of a lifetime and like the Grand Canyon, nothing can quite prepare you for the moment you first stare into the crater. Boasting the world’s only intact caldera and one of Africa’s greatest natural wonders, there are few places that have comparable wildlife densities – it’s not unusual to see the Big Five in one day here. And all this is in the most amazing setting with a backdrop of the 600m (1,968ft) high crater wall.

TANZANIA - DAY 10

Farewell

Today we say “Kwaheri” (“Goodbye in Swahili) as your lodge guide transfers you to the nearest airstrip for your flight to Kilimanjaro Airport, from where you can fly back to Nairobi for your onward travels or to the spice island of Zanzibar for a relaxing few days on a private beach. Multi-day climbs on Mt Kilimanjaro can also be arranged.
