CHOBE NATIONAL PARK

Upon your arrival (by road or air) in Botswana’s wildlife-rich Chobe region, you are met by our local driver and transferred to your lodge located on the banks of the Chobe River in the small safari town of Kasane.

After freshening up, you embark on a private boat safari along the Chobe River, where you will encounter all manner of wildlife, including Nile crocodile and the Chobe’s great herds of elephant as they come to the river’s edge to drink and frolic in the fresh water. As the sun sets over the river, you return to the lodge for a congenial dinner.

From your riverside accommodation, you are usually ‘serenaded’ to sleep tonight by the grunts coming from nearby pods of hippo as they venture out of the water to graze on the lodge’s lush lawn.

CHOBE NATIONAL PARK

Your day revolves around morning and afternoon private game drives within the Chobe National Park. You’ll also enjoy delicious home-style meals and have time for some quality lazing by the pool and perhaps even a midday siesta.

Note: You have the option today of a full day private game drive that ventures further into the park and takes along a picnic lunch. To make your safari extra special, Compass Odyssey travellers are provided with a private vehicle and boat during your stay in Chobe – other companies offer game drives with up to 10 passengers and boat safaris with 50+ travellers on board.

During your game drives, be on the lookout for predators such as lion and hyena, and iconic herbivores such as buffalo, zebra, giraffe, warthog and wildebeest.

CHOBE RIVER & Linyanti-Savute

This morning’s private boat safari on the Chobe River offers a serene and tranquil beginning to another day on safari.

After brunch you are transferred the short distance to Kasane Airport for your flight into the wild expanse of the Linyanti-Savute region. The flight travels in a light aircraft and is part of a daily route that often stops at a number of bush airstrips to deliver/collect other travellers.

Upon arrival you are greeted by your camp guide and enjoy an exciting transfer by helicopter to the camp.

After a pleasant lunch and short rest, you embark on an afternoon/evening game drive within this remote wilderness. You stay here for three nights immersed in the serenity of one of the world’s last true wildernesses.

Linyanti-Savute

After evenings backed by a chorus of nighttime sounds in the African bush, your time here includes day and evening/night game drives, morning bush walks, mokoro safaris, and a complimentary 20-minute scenic helicopter flight over the wetlands.

Linyanti-Savute offers a more remote, private safari experience compared to the busier national parks, with exclusive access to vast swamps, rivers, marshes, and woodlands. Off-road driving allows for closer predator sightings, while walking safaris reveal the smaller wonders of the bush. The Savute Channel, which follows no laws visible to humans and flows only when it will, remains one of Botswana’s great natural mysteries. Seasonal zebra migrations, large elephant herds, and thriving predator populations make this an exceptional wildlife destination.

You may also choose to simply relax in camp and enjoy the expansive views from the swimming pool as well as your luxury safari tent.

Okavango Delta

This morning you are transferred by helicopter back to the airstrip and you fly to the neighbouring wilderness of the Okavango Delta. Once again the flight travels in a light aircraft and is part of a daily route that often stops at a number of bush airstrips to deliver/collect other travellers. Upon arrival you are greeted by your camp guide and enjoy a game drive on the way to camp.

After a pleasant lunch and short rest, you embark on an afternoon/evening game drive.

Okavango Delta

Slipping into ‘Delta time’, your stay here is filled with excellent wildlife viewing, interspersed with fine dining and sunset drinks. Your time in the Okavango Delta includes day and evening/night game drives and morning bush walks. Depending on your choice of camp, you can also explore the waterways of this famous wetland by boat and mokoro or try your hand at catch-and-release fishing (March–December).

One of the world’s last true wildernesses, the Okavango Delta is a vast mosaic of permanent and seasonal swamps, winding channels, islands, lagoons, and forests that support an incredible diversity of wildlife. Each year, the waters flood between May and September before receding again, shaping the movements of the animals that have adapted to this dynamic landscape. Elephants, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, impala, lechwe, sitatunga, reedbuck, hippo, and crocodile thrive here, while predators—including lion, hyena, wild dog, leopard, and cheetah—move through the bush in search of prey. The birdlife is staggering, with fish eagles, kingfishers, jacanas, pygmy geese, darters, and the elusive Pel’s fishing owl among the many species found along the waterways.

OKAVANGO DELTA & Farewell

After an early morning game drive and a hearty brunch, we say tsamaya sentle (“goodbye and go well” in the local Setswana language) as you fly to the safari hub of Maun and your onward travels.
